MESSAGE FROM OPERATIONS: Projects update

As Mor-Gran-Sou Electric Cooperative crews begin preparing for summer construction projects across the service area, the cooperative is highlighting the work already completed. Mild winter weather has allowed line crews to make significant progress on several projects, including underground power line conversion, as well as line patrol and infrastructure maintenance.

One of the major recent projects was the Solen Substation conversion. Last summer, line crews converted 7 miles of three-phase overhead power line to three-phase underground cable that serves the town of Solen. This work has since been completed, and the overhead line has been retired. Installing underground cable helps improve system reliability by reducing exposure to weather, animals, and other factors that can cause power outages.

Each year, Mor-Gran-Sou Electric crews also perform line patrol, which involves inspecting infrastructure across the service area to identify potential issues before they lead to outages. During these inspections, crews determine whether equipment requires maintenance or immediate attention. Eight substations were scheduled for patrol this year, and thanks to the mild weather, crews were able to complete needed maintenance along the way. In addition, line crews worked on meter maintenance and replaced aging oil-circuit reclosers.

Safety remains a top priority for Mor-Gran-Sou Electric. Employees regularly participate in training sessions and safety meetings to maintain strong safety practices. Equipment such as personal protective gear, insulated rubber gloves, and hot sticks is inspected either annually or as needed to ensure it meets safety standards.

As summer approaches, the cooperative is also preparing by ordering materials and securing easements for projects outlined in the 2026 construction work plan. While crews continue their work across the service area, members are encouraged to report any issues or safety concerns involving Mor-Gran-Sou Electric’s infrastructure by contacting the office.
