This year, Mor-Gran-Sou is celebrating 60 years of service. I have been around for 40 of these years. The changes that have taken place during this period are amazing.
I would like to point out a few of them. When I started here, everyone received a meter book and they figured their own bills each month. They read the meter, subtracted the current reading from the previous reading and used a rate chart in the back of the book to enter the cost. If they had a yard light, they included that cost, then tore off the page from the booklet and sent a check or came to the office in person to pay their bill.
By annual meeting time, Mor-Gran-Sou will be able to automatically read most of the meters and the computer automatically figures out the monthly bill. Now a customer can either pay in cash, by check, automatic deduction from their checking account or by credit card.
We did most of the work by hand with large pieces of paper and calculators, typing reports on electric typewriters. Now, everything is done by computers. With spreadsheets that are automatically calculated, reports can be done in a matter of minutes.
In these 40 years, I have worked with a lot of great employees, some of whom have retired or left for a job elsewhere - some even in a different co-op family - and some are still working here. I have learned a lot from these people and they have helped me get where I am today. Everyone keep up the good work that you are doing today, and you will be able to look back on the changes that have occurred.
Every year, we see more change and it will be amazing to see what the next 60 years will bring.
